Early Steps towards a Cambridge Certificate (Angela Princ)
Preparing young learners for a Cambridge YLE exam or a KET for Schools exam is a fun and rewarding experience for both the teacher and the learners. In this session, we will take a brief look at the exams with particular emphasis on the new KET for Schools exam. In addition, we will try out different communicative activities for the classroom that prepare learners well for their exams all the while entertaining them and getting them involved.
Exploring the Young Learners Exams and KET for Schools! (Angela Princ)
What better way to guide our young English learners on their way than through fun, motivating and meaningful markers of progress such as the Starters, Movers and Flyers Exams and the KET for Schools Exam? Together, we will look at the format, the salient features and task types of these exams. In addition, practical and useful exam prep ideas for the classroom will be shared and discussed.
Fun & Objective Preparation for a Cambridge Exam (Angela Princ)
In this session, we will work with the FUN! series for the YLE exams as well as Objective KET for the KET for Schools exam and take a look at the variety of entertaining and communicative activities balanced with exam-style questions to practice all areas of the syllabus in preparation for the exams.
Angela Princ holds a B.A. in French, a B.S. in Secondary Education, and an M.A. in French/Second Language Acquisition from Kansas State University. She has foreign language teaching experience at the university level as well as at the secondary level as a certified teacher. Since moving to Prague, Angela has been teaching English full-time and has had the opportunity to run a number of teacher training workshops in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. She works for Cambridge ESOL and as a freelance speaker and teacher trainer.
FCE Tips (Jan Pikhart)
The aim of the seminar is to remind participants of the skills required in all papers by students taking the FCE exam. Participants will also be provided with some classroom activities and ideas to help students develop skills required for particular parts of the FCE exam.
FCE and CAE, with a focus on Writing (Jan Pikhart)
This practical session sets out to identify some key tips for the FCE and CAE Writing papers. Also, we will discuss common problems with writing tasks with respect to B1 and C1 language level. The teachers will be given advice and tips for teaching writing in general including recommended material. As this is a workshop, participants will be invited to share ideas and discuss their own classroom practice.
Jan Pikhart graduated in English and German from Westbohemian University and holds the DELTA Diploma. He has been involved in TEFL for more than six years. He is a certified Cambridge oral examiner and runs seminars for teachers. Currently, he is working on his doctoral thesis on Written Style and Register in the Selected Current Teaching and Testing Materials.
